We believe street food is more than just great food—it’s a powerful way to bring people together, support independent businesses, and contribute to meaningful community initiatives. That’s why we were excited to support a recent student-led charity event, the Multicultural Market, organized by BA Event Management students at University of Northampton

Designed to celebrate diversity through street food and artisan crafts, essential funds were raised for the Northampton Hope Centre, a local charity helping people facing homelessness, financial hardship, and mental health challenges.

Thanks to West Northamptonshire Council, the event had a prime location in Market Square, helping vendors reach a wider audience while contributing to an important cause.

How Indi Local supported this charity event

The students approached us asking for referrals to independent street food vendors from different cuisines. The arrangement was a low pitch fee that was donated straight to the charity.

Our goal was to ensure the market featured diverse and high-quality options, making it a truly multicultural experience and we were blown away with the response from our app vendors looking to trade.

To give extra visibility, The Hope Centre created an account on the Indi Local app and added the event to the map.

We supported this by filming a promo video that amassed an incredible 11.5k views in just a couple of days - sometimes social media can be useful!

Connecting street food vendors with new opportunities

One of the biggest challenges for street food vendors is getting discovered and securing more bookings—whether at festivals, pop-ups, or private events. That’s exactly where Indi Local comes in.

We help vendors increase visibility and connect with new customers by making it easier for foodies, event organisers, and businesses to find them.

At the Multicultural Market, we were pleased to have connected three fantastic vendors from our network:

Kavita from Gurkha Street Food brought bold and aromatic Nepalese cuisine to the market. From momos (dumplings) to fragrant curries, her truck introduced many visitors to the flavours of Nepal, earning them new fans and potential catering opportunities.

For those craving bold Korean flavours, Maya Street Food delivered their mouth-watering Korean wings, Korean beef bao, and chicken katsu curry. Their mix of crispy, saucy, and savoury dishes had foodies lining up for a taste, proving that Korean street food is a rising favourite in Northampton.

Known as the OG creators of waffles on sticks, Waffle Wands is a name that’s been seen at some of the UK’s biggest festivals, exhibitions, and corporate events. Zoe and Adriana from Waffle Wands brought their signature crispy-on-the-outside, fluffy-on-the-inside waffles to the Multicultural Market, and their delicious, Instagram-worthy treats were a hit with students, families, and sweet-toothed foodies alike.

By joining the Multicultural Market through Indi Local, these vendors not only contributed to a community-driven cause but also showcased their food to potential future event organisers and customers.
